Invisible Stains are Real

Now that summer is approaching, Jeeves is seeing that our clients are getting their white and light colored garments ready for the season. Alas, some of them are seeing invisible stains that have magically appeared.

A prime example is this gorgeous white blazer that was put away in September with nary a stain and now? There is a huge yellow ring and stain. What could have caused this?

Our friend, oxidation. Clear liquid stains, that have a bit of sugar in them (soda, white wine, sparkling wine…) will dry clear. Over a period of many months, the sugars will react with the oxygen in the air, and the stained area will turn yellow or brown. This is the same thing that happens when you half eat an apple and the flesh turns brown.

This jacket is off to the Jeeves workroom to see if we can make it wearable again. Oxidized stains are some of the most difficult to remove, but this jacket is too beautiful to give up on yet.

Remember, clean your clothes before you put them away for the season, otherwise there can be tragic consequences.
