Beautiful but Difficult, April

Jeeves has always been a fan of this Emilio Pucci’s prints and fabrics, but wanted to point out what makes this beautiful dress, difficult to clean. A plastic ring was added as a closure to the front of the dress which adds a fun touch to the design, but makes the dress an issue for routine care.

Dry cleaning is an immersion process (as this dress is dry clean only) and involves tumbling during cleaning and drying. If this dress and plastic ring is tumbled, the likelihood of damage or breakage of the ring is real. Jeeves’ solution was to have our seamstress carefully open the seams and remove the ring for cleaning (and of course reattach after cleaning). This insures that the ring will not break but does add to the complexity of cleaning.

Most dry cleaning firms do not disassemble garments and trim for cleaning, and wrapping this trim with fabric or foil for protection is not a guarantee of safety. Keep in mind when you make a purchase that has unusual trim, this may make the garment difficult to clean.

If you have a garment that you feel may be difficult to clean, show Jeeves, we would love to share our thoughts to you.
