In Hong Kong and China where numbers carry spiritual significance, the date of a traditional wedding is set by consulting a Chinese Monk, Fortune Teller or Chinese Calendar. The night before the wedding both the bride and groom participate in a hair combing ceremony which symbolizes coming of age and entry into adulthood. First a bath infused with pomegranate leaves to ward off evil spirits is given. Then the bride and groom change into new clothes and put on new bedroom slippers. The bride sits in a room with a window where the moon is seen or in front of a mirror and the groom sits facing the inside of the house.

May you be blessed with longevity
Afterwards rice balls are eaten to symbolize that they will have a happy, complete marriage.
