Costume Cleaning

With Halloween approaching , how do you clean your costume after wearing it? It really depends on what your costume is made of.

  • Regular clothing made into a costume can be cleaned by reading the garment care label. If you are adding blood stains, both real blood and fake blood can be difficult to remove.
  • If your cape is made from plastic or vinyl it can be wiped down with a soft cloth a mild cleaning solution made from a 1/4 oz of dish detergent (such as Dawn) to 32 oz of warm water.
  • Your fuzzy unicorn head can be cleaned by vacuuming the exterior. If stained, dampen a clean, absorbent cloth with the cleaning solution recipe above and blot the stained area. This may loosen the stain, but do not rub, as you may hurt your unicorn. Yes, unicorns are real.
  • If you are “putting on a happy face” into the Joker, makeup stains on your red jacket can be removed with dry cleaning. To attempt to remove makeup stains at home you can try; high proof vodka, rubbing alcohol or makeup wipes. Blot the stained area, do not rub. Keep in mind that these methods may leave a ring around the stained area. Dry cleaning is the safest.
