Hand Cleaning Vintage Garments

July 30, 2020

At times vintage garments may be too delicate for routine machine dry cleaning. The fabric may be fragile or the construction of the garment may not be able to withstand the dry cleaning process. This leaves only one option, to find a high skilled, expert to hand-clean your vintage garment.

Hand cleaning is a good option when no other cleaning method can be used safely. Vintage garments and some modern garments cannot be cleaned by any other method. Perhaps you have a piece in your wardrobe with a garment care label that says, “do not wash, do not dry, do not dry clean”. Then hand-cleaning is the only option.

Most dry cleaning firms do not hand-clean garments as this process requires highly experienced experts. When a garment is hand-cleaned, every inch is gone over and a variety of stain removal techniques are used to remove individual spots and general soil. At times, hand-cleaning a simple garment could take less than one hour and a complicated garment could take upwards of five hours.

Jeeves of New York has two experts at our workroom to take care of the hand cleaning of garments. If you have a garment that cannot be cleaned using any other process, Jeeves is at your service.
